Compost With Us

Compost Montclair

Montclair Community Farms is proud to launch Compost Montclair, a new community composting program in partnership with the Township of Montclair's Department of Sustainability, funded by a USDA Composting grant.

Our goal is to equitably and sustainably divert food waste from the waste stream while building a healthier, more resilient community. By closing the loop and turning food scraps into nutrient-rich compost, we reduce landfill waste, lower greenhouse gas emissions, return valuable organic matter to the soil on our farms, and continue feeding our community.

Membership Benefits

Your Compost Montclair membership includes:

  • One 3.5-gallon compost collection bucket with a secure lid.

  • Up to four drop-offs per month (one drop-off each week).

  • An access code to enter the compost drop-off site.

  • A clean, sanitized bucket at each visit through our bucket exchange program.

How It Works

  1. Use the link below to sign up for a Compost Montclair membership.

  2. You will receive an email with our community guidelines, access code to the shed and instructions on when to pick up your bucket.

  3. Pick up your 3.5-gallon compost bucket.

  4. Collect accepted food scraps in your bucket throughout the week.

  5. Visit the compost drop-off site and use the access code to unlock the compost shed.

  6. Place your full, securely sealed bucket in the designated area.

  7. Take home a clean bucket for the following week.

  8. Be sure to lock the compost shed before leaving.

  9. That’s it! We will handle the rest!

Drop-Off Hours

The compost drop-off site is open 7 days a week, from dawn until dusk.

Thank you for helping Montclair reduce food waste and build healthier soils- one bucket at a time.
