MCF will again be hosting our Sweet Pea Summer classes in Summer 2024!

Sweet Pea Summer

Weekly Sessions in July
Monday - Thursday 9:00AM-12:00PM

We're excited to continue our Sweet Pea and Sprouts youth classes in summer with four sessions of Sweet Pea Summer! Each class will run for one week on Monday - Thursday afternoons and dive into a different farm topic to excite our young learners about all that the farm and our natural world have to offer. Whether your child is an animal lover, budding artist, young foodie, or just wants to dig their hands in the dirt, we've got something for all learners!

2024 Dates:

July 1st - 4th

July 8th - 11th

July 15th - 18th

July 22nd - 25th

Session Topics:

The Art of the outdoors: July 1st-4th

  • People have been making art for much longer than they've been making crayons! Students will investigate the amazing versatility of plants and other natural matter as art materials through hands-on projects, as well as seeing ways famous artists have done the same! Activities will include paper making, sculpting, printmaking, and more!

Creatures and critters: JULY 8th-11th

  • Our chickens aren't the only animals we rely on as farmers! Come learn about the beautiful web of life on our farm! Students will meet creatures large and small to investigate the role they play on our farm and in the ecosystem we live in! Creatures being covered include chickens, bees, compost critters, birds, and more!

Farm fresh food: July 15th-18th

  • Where do all of the ingredients in our fridge come from? How does milk turn into butter? This week is all about exploring where food comes from and how it gets made. Students will cook and taste test recipes using seasonal foods, and investigate the science behind making things like ice cream, butter, bread, and more!

Junior naturalists: July 22nd-25th

  • The natural world is full of beauty and mystery that people have been trying to document and understand for as long as we've been around. This week students will take on the role of naturalists and use all five sense to study the plants and animals around them. Each student will create a field journal, complete life drawings, identify specimen, and earn badges!
